Love Story of Laila and Manju from T.E. Pelton, Author of Elven World Mythologies
May you feel the Elven song within, hear the voice speaking from your heart. We are Tuatha de Danann, the children of Earth and stars together, faeries of a new dimension.
–T.E. Pelton, Elven World mythologies
As a writer of modern Celtic or Druidic mythologies with the Elven World series, it may seem odd that I would be the one to tell you this story.
It is so beautiful, however, and considering if you are Celtic in heritage you might never have heard this Indian legend, I will begin.
The Legend and Love Story of Laila and Manju
Laila was a princess and so was bound in marriage since birth.
But as a child she found herself in a profound relationship with her young friend who we know today a Manju (which means crazy in love)
When he was hurt, her body showed the scars of it. When he felt pain, she cried, when she was in danger he stood between her and any harm because he felt her fears just as if they were his own.
Despite the torture and eventual banishment for his love, Manju remained true to her. And despite being married to another man, Laila kept herself for Manju only. Her husband sought revenge and planned to kill Manju so he would have Laila all to himself.
When at last Manju was faced with the violence of Laila’s husband, he faltered from weakness and hunger, Manju was stabbed in the heart. At the same moment, in the palace of her husband, Laila feel down dead
This legend tells us the love of twin souls or soul mates. That we are not two, but are one whole.
You are the legend. You are divine.
